WHO CAN GET THE UIF BENEFITS?

Unemployment Benefits: If any South African Citizen suddenly gets unemployed, then they will get the benefit of UIF.
Maternity Benefits: If someone has to leave their job for maternity, they are eligible for UIF too. But they will get a maximum fund of 121 days.
Illness Benefits: If a person is suffering from some serious reason and they had to leave their job because of that, they can get the benefit of UIF.

HOW MUCH MONEY CAN WORKERS GET FROM UIF?
The UIF is different for each worker. The workers have to be a contributor of UIF while they are still employed, to claim the money later. For every 6 days of your contribution in UIF during your employed state, you will get 1 day of UIF. For example, if you contributed for a month while still being employed, you will get the UIF for 5 days. If a worker is contributing to UIF for over four years they will get the UIF money for 243 days.
If your unemployment is for maternity, you will receive UIF up to 121 days maximum. UIF will give you a percentage of the money you were earning while having a job. But at that phase, you should have been a contributor to UIF. Otherwise, you can’t claim the UIF Money. The maximum amount of money you can get under the UIF scheme is 59% of your daily salary.
UIF ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Employee must be a South African Citizen.
- You must have been a contributor to UIF while being employed. ( At least 2% of the gross monthly income).
- The employee should not be suspended from the work. Even if they resign they will not get the UIF fund.
- The employee should be a registered active job seeker.
- The employee must submit the UIF application within six months of annulment from the job.
HOW CAN I CLAIM UIF BENEFITS?
If you want to apply for the UIF, you need to visit your local labour center in South Africa. Then you need to sign the register of your unemployment. You need to visit the labour center every four weeks to confirm that you still need the UIF money. Every time you visit the center, you need to sign the register. You will receive a white card from the center which the UIF officer will sign every time along with you.
Please make sure to visit the center on the specific date. If you are suffering from any illness you need to take a medical certificate from a registered doctor as a reason for your delay.
