With 174 maternal deaths per 1,00,000 live births and 28 newborn deaths per 1,000 live births , India has one of the highest rates of maternal and infant mortality in the world. Tragically for one in five babies who die in their first month in the developing world, just being washed in clean water and cared for in a clean environment by people who had washed their hands could have prevented their untimely deaths.
WaterAid India works on improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene across the country. In India we currently work in 43 districts, and 14 towns/cities across 11 states.
