Loo with a View

WaterAid/ Prashanth Vishwanathan

As part of our ongoing activities to create awareness around how open defecation affects us all at Simhastha Kumbh 2016, we launched the Loo with a View.

The toilets were launched on May 12 by H.H. Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, President of the Parmarth Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh and Co-Founder of Global Interfaith WASH Alliance (GIWA).

These toilets have a one-way mirror on the door. A person inside using the toilet can look outside, but to those outside, the door is simply a mirror. The experience, we hope, will provide a sense of what life is like for the approximately 560 million Indians who go out into the open to defecate due to lack of a safe and private toilet.
